How to use this tuner
Start

Click Start Tuning and allow microphone access. Play a note, the tuner detects pitch in real time and shows how sharp or flat you are in cents.

Cents

The bar spans −50 to +50 cents. Zero is perfectly in tune. The history line shows where you’ve been, for trumpet, this reveals whether pitch drifts as embouchure tires on a long note.

Transpose

Trumpet (B♭) is already selected, note names match your written part. Switch to another instrument in the dropdown if needed.

Reference A

Default is A440. Tap + / to match your ensemble, A441–442 is common in orchestras, A415 for historical pitch.

The B♭ trumpet sounds a whole step lower than written: when you play a written C, the concert pitch is B♭. This tuner accounts for that automatically, so the note names you see match your part. Trumpet pitch is highly responsive to embouchure and air speed, faster air raises pitch, slower air drops it, which lets experienced players lip notes into tune, but also means intonation can shift as the embouchure tires through a long rehearsal or performance. The main tuning slide adjusts your overall pitch. The 1st and 3rd valve slides handle specific problem notes, low D and D♭ are notoriously flat on most trumpets and require extending the 3rd valve slide while you play them. The pitch history display helps identify whether a sustained note drifts as embouchure fatigues, a common pattern in early players worth catching early.
